As we continue the important work of advancing equity and justice in our community, I want to take a moment to express deep gratitude to the leaders who came before us. Your dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment laid the foundation upon which we now stand. We honor your legacy and thank you for the trail you blazed.
As the newly elected President of the Winston-Salem Branch, my goal is simple but powerful: to serve every member of our branch with integrity, transparency, and compassion. This work cannot be done alone—we must walk together in unity, uplift one another, and move forward as one.
Let’s continue building a branch that not only honors our past but also boldly shapes the future.
“Forward, Upward, Onward, Together…”
Regards,
Anthony Hairston
President, NAACP Winston-Salem Branch
On February 12, 1909, the nation’s largest and most widely recognized civil rights organization was born.
Amid the economic struggles of the 1930s, the Winston-Salem branch was established in 1933, during a time when the NAACP was building the legal foundation that would lead to Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
Slow progress in Winston-Salem in late 50’s led the W-S NAACP Executive Committee in 1969 to review the WSFCS pupil assignment plan to advance public school integration.
On August 26, 2004, the City of Winston-Salem deeded the Northampton Community Center to the local NAACP for community-oriented programs.
