Winston-Salem Preparatory Chapter
The Winston-Salem Prep NAACP Youth Chapter is the first NAACP youth chapter in Winston-Salem, empowering students through civic engagement, community service, advocacy, and leadership.
Naja’ Fleming, the current NAACP Youth Chapter President, is a Winston-Salem Prep senior who has demonstrated leadership through civic engagement, academics, athletics, and community involvement. She plans to attend North Carolina Central University to study pre-law and pursue a career advocating for justice. Watch video to learn more about Naja’.

Winston-Salem State Univeristy Chapter
The Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) NAACP Chapter was proudly reactivated in 2025 under the leadership of President Angel Mitchell-Morris.
In its first year, the chapter demonstrated strong student engagement and community impact, ending the year with 46 active members, 1,190 hours of community service, and 40 members named to the Dean’s List.
Chapter members actively participate in campus events, community service initiatives, and programs alongside the Winston-Salem NAACP Branch, strengthening the connection between WSSU students and the broader Winston-Salem community.
Youth Scholarships
Each year the Winston-Salem Branch offers five scholarships of $1,000 each to assist eligible high school seniors of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools with paying for college.
Preferences:
- Be a high school senior with an unweighted G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher.
- Plan to enroll as a full-time student in a two or four-year accredited college or university.
- Must demonstrate financial need.
Application:
The application period is January through March. The application must include a brief statement highlighting the student’s educational and career goals, and community involvement. All application information will be kept confidential by the scholarship awards committee. Also, all scholarship recipients grant the Winston-Salem NAACP permission to use their names and photographs/videos in media to publicize, report, and/or promote the scholarship program and the Winston-Salem Branch NAACP.
